Why Celtic United?
Celtic Football Club is the love of my life. Although a little club called United Glasgow has since crossed my path and now there will forever be a place in my heart for them too. I write about the thing that I love, more often than not, so it only seemed fitting that the title of the blog reflected the love I have for my topic of interest (football). There will be other tales along the way, but I promise that each one will have it's own positive spin.

United Glasgow FCI joined United Glasgow FC in November 2016, but I had been contributing to the club some time before I ventured to my first Monday drop-in session.
Since forming in 2011, United Glasgow has aspired to make football accessible and affordable to all. It has been the clubs mission to make members of communities who often face prejudice feel welcome in Glasgow, and widely Scotland. This is a club that tackles social, political and financial exclusion, by using football as a common ground on which everyone can feel at home. |
Sports Heritage ScotlandSports Heritage Scotland was established in 2015 by national sporting bodies and heritage organisations representing the sports of cricket, curling, football, golf, rugby and shinty.
At the heart of the partnership is an ambition to identify and preserve Scotland’s sporting heritage. Our network of memories groups aim to support the health and well being of people living with dementia and other forms of memory loss and people who may otherwise be experiencing loneliness, isolation or depression. |
A WEE BIT ABOUT MYSELF...My name is Lindsay Hamilton and I am a supporter of Glasgow Celtic and a member of United Glasgow FC, hence the title*.
My passion for football runs deep and from a young age I have challenged many aspects of my own life through participating in football as a player, coach, fan and activist. Now in my adult life even my working day is encompassed by football; at Sports Heritage Scotland, and through our Football Memories project, we are using football to improve the lives of those who live with dementia and other forms of memory loss. Furthermore, in January this year I was one of six individuals who set up the first LGBTQI+ Celtic Supporters Club, namely Proud Huddle C.S.C. Football is the tie that binds me to the world, my work, my friends and my family. It’s the life blood, if you like, and sometimes I like to write about it. I hope you enjoy. Hail Hail. *Yes this is also a nod to Rod Stewart’s ‘You’re in my Heart’ but it most definitely has no affiliation to Manchester United. Also I changed the lyrics ever so slightly because I thought he said 'the day that I decided' not "but baby I've decided..." Sorry Sir Rod! |
